Vista Security

New Apple GetAMac Ad about Vista Security. "You are coming to a sad realization, cancel or allow?" The unfortunate part is the people it's there to protect see it as just as ridiculous, and it will just get them in the habit of clicking ok/allow/yes to things.

That's my biggest complaint about Vista, especially since you cannot get to other programs (that I was able to at least). Which means, when an important Cancel or Allow comes up, the user can't search the internet or ask someone over instant messenger what they should do.

I agree, it is training them to click allow all the time. I waiting for an installer / security program to embrace the truth and have the buttons: Cancel, Back, and Whatever

It seems like this feature might be good in theory but bad in practice as you both pointed out. It doesn't seem much different then what spybot or zone alarm do. Ask about every tiny change to the system. It requires the user to be smarter than they really are in order to effectively use the "feature". What will happen though is that it will allow Microsoft to shift the blame to the users by saying, "the security is there but users are using it incorrectly (because they are dumb)."

I don't like the feature either. Having to install many different programs on a machine and having all these messages pop up is annoying. As Pete mentioned it would be nice to be able to ask some one about it.

I also thought Bill Gate's comments in an interview about the ad were a little funny.
